Introduction:
It is the era of the civil rights movement (1955-1968) and you a reporter for the New York Times. Our country is experiencing historical court cases, protests, and speeches aimed at abolishing the discrimination of African Americans and segregation in the Southern States. You have been sent out on a mission; attend as many events as you possibly can, interviewing people, experiencing first had accounts, and collecting as much information as you are able to.

Task:
By the end of the Web Quest you will have a better understanding of the research and inquiry process, as well as a greater knowledge of the Civil Rights Movement. Through the research you will travel back in time and really envision yourself in that time period. You will make yourself familiar with important terms, people and events. You will be responsible for having a general understanding of each, looking up terms and researching the events. You will need to complete a small blurb for each event in your writer's notebook. You will then focus in on the historical event that interests you the most, and become an expert on the matter. You will research, create interviews, and in the end write a news article for the event.

Step 1:
In this web quest you will act as a reporter and research multiple historical events of the Civil Rights Movement. First, look up the following terms and record them in your writer's notebook:

You will now research each of the following events and develop a short blurb for each:

Once you have completed steps one and two you will then chose one of the seven events highlighted above to become the expert on. You will then further your investigation gathering as much information on the vent as you possibly can. Once you have collected all of your information you will then write a news article on the event, as if you were an eye witness. The essay must have a 500 word minimum,as well as a minimum of 2 images. Write your draft in your writers notebook,and then use word or publisher to create your final draft. There is a minimum requirement of 3 sources necessary. As a class we will put together a special newspaper, using all of the articles.

- Rosa Parks and the Montgomery bus protest
- Freedom Riders
- Little Rock nine
- Bloody Sunday
- Martin Luther King Jr. "I have a Dream" speech
- Martin Luther Kings Assassination

- Key people involved?
- Why did it happen?
- Who was affected by the event?
